Garrett County continues to have high levels of transmission of COVID-19. In the most recently analyzed week, individuals under the age of 18 years made up 28% of cases. The week prior, that group made up only 15% of all cases. Children are equally susceptible to acquiring COVID-19 as adults. Because this group is mostly unvaccinated, it is not surprising that they should have a large burden of cases. GCPS appropriately mandates masking at the present time within all school buildings. Masking in group settings outside of school would make a difference in transmission, but vaccination is the best way to get on top of these transmission levels.
